1. Have a bath - put your phone away, slosh in a little of the most expensive/ lavish bath product you own, slide down beneath the bubbles and - ahhhhhhhhh - relax.
2. Talk to someone - go for coffee with your mom, call your best friend, or have a whinge to your boyfriend over an extra large dominoes pizza (even better if it's two for Tuesday). Nothing works better than sitting down with someone you love and who loves you and just letting it all out. It really is the best kind of therapy.
3. Grab a book - watching a film/playing a game can just in no way compete with the absolute distraction that reading a book brings. Broke up with your boyfriend? Pick up Fifty Shades and it's highly likely you'll be completely over him (and absolutely fixated on a certain CEO) by the time you've finished. Finding your life so mundanely dull that you're considering popping along to the vets and asking to be put down? Go and dig out your old copy of Harry Potter and jump into the world of Hogwarts, Dumbledore, and patronuses. Spend entire next day at work referring to your boss as a 'filthy mudblood'.
4. Listen to music - pick a song that makes you insanely happy (for me it's still Oliver Heldens - Overdrive atm) and put it on repeat. Dancing around singing into a 'mic' is optional, but something I'll choose to do every time.
5. Look through old photos. Remember that there was a time when things weren't so bad (in fact they were pretty bloody great) and realise that they will be again.
6. Do something creative - bake, draw, paint, write, etc. Just engage in a task that will occupy your mind for a while.
7. Sleep. 99% of the time when you go to bed and get a good night's sleep, you'll wake up in the morning with a totally different perspective and feel ten times better.
8. Exercise - never got this one personally. But you know, burst of endorphins etc. Worth a go I suppose.
9. A suggestion more likely to work - EAT. I'm talking about absolute rubbish. Revert back to your 6 year old self and get someone to make you spaghetti hoops and smiley faces. Demolish the family sized bar of galaxy at the back of the cupboard. Order Indian and eat a whole naan to yourself. Do not feel guilty about any of this.
10. Cry - sometimes there's just no better/more effective solution than to sit down and have a good cry. This is not weak, nor does it make you a drama queen, it just means that on this occasion everything has gotten a bit too much for you and you need to let it all out. Crying is healthy, remember this!
